The History of Shah Jahan in Agra

Shah Jahan, from Persian meaning “King of the World”, founder of the magnificent Taj Mahal, was India’s fifth Mughal emperor. Ruling from 1628 to 1658, he brought the Mughal Empire to it’s height in prosperity and luxury. His reign was regarded as the golden age of Indian architecture. Through his strong passion in architecture, numerous magnificent monuments were erected throughout India but the one that stood out the most was the Taj Mahal in Agra, which he built in the memory of this beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

The Taj Mahal was built of of pure love; a monument refine to the gains. Employment of the white marble makes the monument look almost fictional yet extremely real when one actually stands on it. By having an embodied experience, one could feel the essence of the overwhelming love of Shah Jahan for his wife. While some say that the Taj Mahal is not the most beautiful building in the world, it is definitely the most spectacular symbol of eternal love.

Another noteworthy architectural incident in Agra by Shah Jahan was the renovation of the Agra Fort. Standing in the Octagonal Tower he had built and slowly glancing over the Yamuna river, the white figure of the Taj Mahal starts to emerge; no words could describe all the feelings and that storm on to oneself; it was an experience never to be forgotten. The great and mighty emperor, Shah Jahan, was renowned as a great military and economic leader to his empire and will be remembered as “ The Master Builder of Asia” who built the Taj Mahal. A work of art from the hands and mind of an emperor, the Taj Mahal, will forever be recognized as a stunning success. A great masterpiece upon the peaceful banks of Yamuna River tells the story of a Prince who fell in love.
